As an amateur luthier I find great pleasure in building beautiful acoustic guitars. When an opportunity came up to take over the Gardenbench, it was an obvious leap as it offered an outlet for my love of making beautiful things out of wood and since I retired last year, I had the time available. I will continue to operate the Gardenbench to the high quality standards set by Rod, the previous owner. We look forward to giving you the best customer service and years of comfort and enjoyment in your garden.

I am a father of three children mostly, but when Im not parenting I am in my garage cutting or tinkering something out of wood – or you might find me camping or hiking in my favourite place on earth, the Cederberg. I have spent the last 20 years working in Cape Town’s craft and tourist markets, manufacturing and selling everything from clothing to dolls houses. Throughout this journey I have come to value high quality local inputs and simple functional design. In many ways this is how Garden Bench found me. Simple iconic design, made from quality local materials, for a relaxed South African outdoor setting. I am excited to explore this space with you and meet other enthusiasts.

Caring about our primary resource

We have to appreciate the wood that we work with is a natural resource and avoid wasting it. Not every piece of wood we use is perfect, and we will include pieces with slight imperfections rather than waste these. We trust you understand and share these sentiments.
